December 1943 - Monte La Difensa was a heavily fortified peak guarding the Mignano Gap, a key route toward Cassino and Rome. Its steep terrain and strong German defences turned it into a stalemate for the Allied forces until the assault broke it.
Insert the 1st Special Service Force, a combined USA-Canada commando unit that would become feared by the Germans. The Black Devils paved the way for generations of warriors following WW2. The modern U.S. Army Green Berets and Canada’s CSOR trace their lineage to the original First Special Service Force.
